Privacy notice
Updated 6 October 2026. Fish Log 72 is operated by Simon Howe. Use our Contact form to contact us about your information or account.
Contact messages
When you use our Contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message by email so we can handle your enquiry and reply. Please do not include passwords or sensitive account details. Security rate limits use protected identifiers derived from your network address and email address.
Your private fishing log
We use your email address, password hash, optional display name and preferences to provide and protect your account. We store the trips, catches, notes, coordinates and photos you choose to save. These records are private to your account. The operator may access information when necessary for support, security or a legal obligation. Do not include sensitive information about other people in your notes or photographs.
Why we use this information
We process account details and fishing records to provide the service you request, on the basis of performing our agreement with you. We use security logs, rate limits and account controls for our legitimate interests in preventing abuse and keeping the service reliable. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting us. If a legal obligation requires us to retain or disclose information, we will explain it where permitted.
Storage and service providers
The application and encrypted backups are held on the operator's computers. Email verification, password-reset messages and operational alerts use the existing SMTP2GO email delivery service; it processes the destination address and message content. Its infrastructure may involve processing outside the UK. Contact us for information about the provider arrangements and applicable safeguards. We do not sell your information or use advertising trackers.
Photos, location and external links
Uploaded images are converted and embedded metadata, including EXIF location information, is removed. Coordinates that you enter in location forms remain in your records. Opening a Google Maps link sends the selected coordinates to Google and uses Google's service under its own privacy terms. The app does not request GPS or camera permission in this version; selecting a photo uses the system photo picker.
Cookies and device access
Essential session and security cookies support sign-in and prevent forged requests. A local browser preference remembers your chosen colour theme. Android stores its access token using device secure storage. We do not use optional analytics or marketing cookies.
How long information stays
Your records remain while your account exists, until you delete them. Account deletion removes active records and queues any failed photo-file removal for retry. Encrypted recovery copies use seven daily and four weekly restore points; data removed from the active service can remain in those backups until retention removes the relevant snapshots. Unavailable or disconnected backup copies can retain older data until the next successful refresh. A recovery from an older backup must reapply any subsequent deletion requests. Web access logs and service logs are retained for up to 14 days. Expired authentication and submission metadata is cleaned regularly.
Delete your Fish Log 72 account
You can request account deletion without installing the Android app. Sign in to the Fish Log 72 website, open Account, and choose Delete your account. Confirm your current password and the deletion warning. This removes your account, trips, catches, saved locations and stored photos from the active service and signs out your devices. You can export your records from Account first.
If you cannot sign in, request help with deleting your account and associated data using our Contact form. Select “Account deletion” from the Subject dropdown so we can identify your request. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you. Do not send your password. Recovery copies expire under the backup retention described above; security logs are retained for the period described above.
Your choices and rights
You can update your records and preferences, download an export with your stored photos from Account, or delete your account after confirming your password. Contact us for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or to object to processing. We may need to verify your identity. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. We do not make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects.
An email address and password are needed to provide an account; other log content is optional. Without an account you can read this notice but cannot keep a private log. This notice will be updated before using your information for a new purpose.
